Tour de Collierville Sept 4th 2011
Collierville, TN,
The Tour de Collierville had a record turnout this year, as 305 enthusiastic
bicyclists geared up to take part in an amazing fundraiser. The annual ride, now in its eighth
year, benefits the Special Olympics, Collierville Camp Smile, and the local YMCA Special
Needs Aquatic and Athletic Program. The Tour de Collierville 2011 raised an amazing $9,000.
Collierville Civitan and Ride Director Mark Krebs and Collierville Civitan President Gordon
Brigman gave the riders a rousing send-off to get the day of fun and fellowship started.
Riders chose between 28, 37, or 72 mile courses, all of which got rolling at 7:30 a.m. The
event also included the popular five-mile Family Fun Ride.
Before they got underway, riders got their bikes tuned up and ready for action for free by
local company RB’s Cyclery.
Support and Gear (SAG) rest stops along the route were manned by Civitans from the Cordova, Raleigh-Bartlett, and Collierville clubs. Each SAG
station also included HAM radio operators from the Tri-State Repeater Association, who supplied support and rescue assistance.
The Family Fun Ride was led by Collierville Police Reserve Officer George Moore. Moore has led the family course for six years, which shows off
Collierville’s stunning Greenbelt. The Greenbelt is a beautiful outdoor space with hiking trails and wildlife. This year 60 people participated in the Family
Fun Ride. After crossing the finish line, adults and children alike cooled off with a trip to a nearby sprinkler park, where the kids taught their parents the
perfect way to end a day of riding.
